Consumer Focus Wales is campaigning to get the Food Standards Agency to issue guidance to food businesses to make it clear that the same equipment should never be used for raw and ready-to-eat foods.
In 2005, 5-year-old Mason Jones from South Wales died from E.coli O157 infection because equipment was used for raw and cooked foods and was not cleaned properly.
The Food Standards Agency is currently consulting on guidance to be issued to food businesses. Consumer Focus Wales is calling on them to issue the guidance as a matter of urgency and back it up with clear warnings to business about the penalties for non-compliance.
