Around one in three young people in Wales today will have experienced family breakdown by the time they reach their early teens. Around a quarter of these young people report that they do not see their biological father. However almost half of them still report feeling close to their father even if they are no longer living with him.
Article 9 of the UNCRC states that a child who is separated from one or both of his parents has the right to maintain personal relations and direct contact on a regular basis, except if it is contrary to the child’s best interest.
