There is clear evidence that when fathers are encouraged and supported to be fully involved in the life of their child early on, it can set a precedent and that involvement then continues throughout the life of the child.
Although fathers, along with men in general, are very often reluctant to engage with health and other professionals, during the peri-natal period most expectant fathers are in touch with services and keen to do "the best" for their new baby. Recruitment of fathers to services, which often constitutes the biggest challenge, therefore becomes significantly easier during this period.
