Other Work relating to Looked After Children

In addition to the work on the health of looked after children and co-ordinating the All Wales Children and Young People’s Advocacy Providers Group Children in Wales carries out a range of other work relating to the needs of looked after children. This includes:

Monitoring the UNCRC

In preparation for the UNCRC Monitoring in 2007 Children in Wales completed the Looked After section of the NGO alternative report. More information about monitoring the UNCRC and the NGO alternative report is available in the UN Convention section.

Practitioner Workshops

Held in association with British Association of Social Workers, aimed at Children’s Services practitioners, Children’s Guardians and adoption and fostering workers.

The Education of Looked After Children

Children in Wales supports work relating to the education of looked after children.  This included hosting the "From Care to University" conference in July 2005, at which new research on the higher education of care leavers was launched.  More information is available in the press release about the conference.
